Hoquarton Interpretive & Historical Museum
Tilamook, Oregon | 2014
The new Hoquarton Interpretive & Historical Museum in Tillamook, Oregon sits on the edge of, and provides support services for the Hoquarton Slough, a vast wetland preserve and recreational site. The project converts a historical 1880s homestead and its one-acre site into a two-level interpretive and exhibition hall with permanent and new displays, a new science lab, a canoe-making outdoor classroom, restored native landscapes including ethnobotanical resources that have been used by native tribes for millennia, as well as pioneer-era garden plots that will feature optimum plants for traditional forms of preservation. The site will be connected to the adjacent nature park via a bridge and trail system, and the project will address numerous under-served nature space needs in our bioregion.
